Warehouses and distribution centres are hard to keep comfortable. High roofs, large doors that stay open all day and metal roofing that soaks up the sun all push indoor temperatures up, especially through an Indian summer.
Warm air rises and collects under the roof. In a tall building there can be a large temperature difference between floor and ceiling. In cooled spaces, the conditioned air coming out of high-level outlets runs into that hot layer, and the system works much harder than it needs to while the floor still feels warm.
Destratification, simply mixing the air so hot and cool layers do not separate, is one of the cheapest ways to improve conditions. Large, slow-moving fans do this well and often cut energy use at the same time.
We look at how the building is actually used, where people work and what is stored, before recommending anything, so the money goes where it makes the most difference.
